Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival

One of the most prolific literary festivals in the UK, the Stratford Literary Festival is a week-long event attended by thousands of people every year – including several celebrities. 

Join a writers bootcamp, take part in a debate, or just listen to authors talking about their passion – the Stratford Literary Festival is the highlight of spring.

Bancroft Gardens (10 minute drive)

Enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Bancroft Gardens in the spring sunshine. 

Thanks to Stratford-upon-Avon Rotary Club’s campaign to end polio, a blanket of over 8,000 purple crocuses blooms every spring in Bancroft Gardens and elsewhere in Stratford-upon-Avon. Coupled with the scatterings of daffodils and tulips, it truly is a sight to behold.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre (8 minute drive)

Where better to experience a Shakespeare play than the place of his birth? 

Enjoy a live performance of one of Shakespeare’s many plays, they were written to be watched, not read after all. There’re multiple plays to choose from – take your pick from drama, comedy, or romance.

Warwick Castle (20 minute drive)

Step back in time and pay a visit to this medieval castle! 

Get lost in the Horrible Histories maze or explore the inner workings of the castle, there’s plenty to see on a trip to Warwick Castle. You can even try your hand at archery! 

Mop Fair (10 minute drive)

Despite the name, this two-day street fair has nothing to do with cleaning. 

With fairground rides, both new and traditional, and plenty of old-school carnival games you’ll never be bored. And with so much ground to cover, you won’t run out of things to see in Stratford-upon-Avon either

Leaf peeping 

Stratford-upon-Avon looks truly picturesque in autumn. 

Leaf peeping is travelling to different places to see the myriad of colours pattern trees when the leaves change in autumn. If you’re stuck on what to do in Stratford-upon-Avon, head down to the river and admire the way fiery colours reflecting off the water – it really is a sight to behold. 

Christmas Markets (10 minute drive)

Take in the magic of Stratford-upon-Avon’s Victorian Christmas Market – one of the best Christmas markets in Warwickshire. 

With over 300 stalls, you’ll need all four days of the market to explore everything. With live music, traditional fair performers, and plenty of street food available, the festivities will really get you in the mood for Christmas.

Shakespeare Distillery (12 minute drive)

Combat the chill and attend a tasting at the Shakespeare Distillery. 

Take a tour around the distillery and learn all about its history. But, if you want something a little more hands on, you can book into a class at Gin School and learn how to distill your own spirits.
